During the last few weeks of lockdown, we have been busy delivering our first RYA Day Skipper theory course by webinar classes. We now have full RYA approval to run a course for the public and the dates are now live on our website. Please click this link for more information on the course – https://youandsea.com/our-courses/rya-shorebased-courses/day-skipper-theory-webinar/

The course is taught using Zoom software which allows for full student participation. The usual RYA course packs are sent out along with additional course material on a USB stick from us to support the course. During the classes, the software allows us to share our screen with all the students and we have a large amount of training support material from powerpoints, to videos, website links and photos which we use as well as the RYA Training Chart plotter and Radar simulator.

We can also link an Ipad screen using its camera to the computer as well which has allowed us to create a desktop whiteboard/real charts to assist with showing working to some questions such as tidal heights, chart work, position fixing and more.

The ‘usual’ classroom course is run over 6 days from however this one is longer which allows us more time to go back over some questions or find another way of explaining a subject. We are running the course over 7 days with 1 day in the classroom once the restrictions are lifted  which will be used to complete the 2 assessments.

The course dates are;

  • 25th May,
  • 26th May,
