Joining Instructions - 1 Day Stability

About the course

  • This one-day classroom course includes plenty of practical demonstrations and exercises. While this is traditionally a mathematical/scientific subject, our Instructors will assume you have no formal stability training; he will keep formulas to an absolute minimum and focus on ensuring you leave with a working knowledge of small craft stability. The course content is;

    • General terminology

    • General Principles of Transverse Stability

    • Adding, removing and shifting weights

    • The Stability Booklet

    • Stiff and tender vessels

    • Use of cranes and shift of CoG

    • Free Surface Effect

    • Critical KG calculations (Transverse Stability)

    • Inclining Test

    • Deck edge Immersion

    • Catamaran stability

    • Risks associated with Tug and Tow

    • Risks associated with deck cargoes

    • Wind & Ice accretion Effects

  • 09:15-17:00

Certificates

  • You will be issued with an MCA 1-day Stability Course Completion certificate

Assessment

  • There is a short written assessment at the end of the course, which consists of multiple-choice questions.

  • We provide all equipment for use throughout the course

Food

  • Tea, coffee and snacks are included, but meals are not. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch, or there is a shop nearby with takeaway rolls, etc. Our training centre also has multiple microwaves and fridges, which you are welcome to use. Cafe Rhu in the Marina is open Wednesday - Sunday.
