Joining Instructions - RYA Advanced Powerboat Exam Prep

Timing

  • Day 1: 09:15 until dark, including night exercise.

  • Day 2: 09.15-17.00.

  • Day 3: TBC (finish after dark). Estimated start time: 1pm - exact start time will be confirmed during the course. 

Location

Exam

  • Please pay for your exam via www.rya.org.uk/exams prior to the prep course. Once payment has been received by the RYA, they will send through a personalised application form. Please bring this with you. Ignore this if your company is paying for your training.

What to bring:

  • Copy of VHF Radio Licence

  • Valid & in-date First Certificate - RYA, STCW or SeaFish.

  • Advanced Exam Application form (received after you pay for your exam (see above)

  • Passport-size photo

  • Logbook, complete with logged miles.

  • 3 Days use of Maverick, our 6.8m Humber Ocean Pro

  • 2 Days of tuition by one of our Advanced Powerboat Instructors

  • Tea/Coffee/Snacks

  • RYA Advanced Powerboat theory book on your arrival.

  • Use of our Gill Wet Weather gear (you're welcome to bring your own)

  • Meals

  • Advanced Exam Fee (£230)

Clothing

  • Life jackets and wet-weather gear are available for use during the course, but please make sure you bring the correct clothing for the expected weather. A warm jumper, gloves and a hat are always advisable. A pair of wellies or waterproof shoes/boots is also highly recommended. 

Accommodation

  • The course is non-residential, but there are several hotels and B&Bs in the near vicinity. The closest hotel is the Ardencaple.

Food

  • Tea, coffee and snacks are included, but meals are not. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch, or there is a shop nearby with takeaway rolls etc. Cafe Rhu in the Marina is open Wednesday - Sunday.
