The STCW Medical Care Onboard Ship Update course is a mandatory 3-day refresher training course designed for masters and designated medical personnel on ships to update their skills every 5 years.

It ensures competence in providing long-term medical care, using the Ship Captain’s Medical Guide, and administering Cat A medical kit supplies, such as injections and suturingThis training is designed to provide the essential knowledge and practical skills required for seafarers pursuing their Chief Mate’s Certificate of Competence, as well as for those designated to take charge of medical care onboard, in accordance with Regulation VI/4 of the STCW Convention.

    • Advanced Trauma Care: Primary/secondary surveys, bleeding management, and hypothermia/hyperthermia.

    • Clinical Procedures: Suturing, catheterization, and injections.

    • Diagnostics: Taking medical history, using the Ships Captain's Medical Guide, and communicating with telemedical assistance services (TMAS).

    • Specific Care: Dental care, ENT, infections, and child birth

  • 3 Days Training by an experienced medical professional

    • Delegates must hold a valid certificate in STCW Medical Care on Board Certificate.

    • ID must be presented on the day of the course. Acceptable forms include a valid passport, driving licence, or discharge book.
