Joining Instructions - STCW Personal Survival Techniques

Timing

  • 09:00-17:00.

  • There is a 2 hour practical pool session, which is normally 1pm-3pm. Our regular pool is the Vale of Leven in Alexandria (about a 15-minute drive from Rhu)

Parking

  • Free parking outside our training centre in the marina.

Assessment

  • There will be a short multiple-choice assessment paper at the end of the course

Certificate

  • You will be issued the STCW Personal Survival Techniques Certificate on successful completion of the course. This needs to be renewed every 5 years.

What’s Included

  • Course notes, tea, coffee, snacks, lifejacket and wet weather gear for the pool session.

What’s not included

  • Lunch

Equipment

  • You will be provided with waterproofs and a life jacket.

  • Please bring a towel, change of clothes, and swimming trunks/costume because part of this course takes place in a swimming pool. You may be asked to enter the pool in clothes so please bring clothing you are happy to enter the water wearing. Footwear is not required for the pool session.

Food

  • Tea, coffee and snacks are included, but meals are not. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch, or there is a shop nearby with takeaway rolls etc. Cafe Rhu in the Marina is open Wednesday - Sunday.
